SailGP: Impact League

Who’s doing it?

SailGP is an international sailing competition using high performance F50 foiling catamarans. Teams compete across a season of global grands prix.

What are they doing?

SailGP’s goal is to become the world’s most sustainable and purpose-driven global sports and entertainment platform.

In pursuit of this, Sail GP launched its ‘Impact League’ in July 2021 – with a second leaderboard accompanying the overall race standings. The eight international teams are rewarded for their activity across ten streams of key environmental and social criteria.

The criteria include innovative new renewable energy technologies and removing all single-use plastics, to increased diversity and inclusion and using the team’s platform for the wider good.

Why is it important?

This exciting and independently measured initiative has reinforced the sport’s and its teams’ commitment towards meaningful ‘sustainable as normal’ change.

Fans of sailing and beyond are getting behind SailGP’s innovative model. If they continue to succeed, they will have created a blueprint for many other sports and rights holders to follow.
